Mother's Day

This Mother's day I gave my other grandmother (not the one I live with) a piece of artwork from my Senior art show. She has arthritis and was not able to make it to my show. She and my grandfather moved here to LA from New Jersey when I was eight, and helped raise me and my three sisters while my parents worked. She is a great woman and a fantastic babcia whom I love very much. Also, I gave my other grandmother (the one I live with) a painting a few years back, and felt like it would be nice to give this grandmother a piece of my artwork as well. It's based off of a Polish Church in Krakow with influence from Polish artwork, from my film in progress.

Gate Background Progress

An update on my background coloring! This is for a scene from my film, well a few scenes, and its almost there! I still need to add a bunch of bushes and trees and things, the drawbridge, and the platform that it opens onto. I will probably bust out the paper tomorrow to finish it for good! Finals work is kicking my butt but it'll be all over soon!

Title Card!

Here's a wycinanki-style title card for my movie. Still not sure how to do the type... I may end up washing out the color a bunch so you can see the words once I put them on top. We'll see how it goes. :)

First Colored Scene!

First colored frame of my first completed scene!! I feel like I've passed a milestone for my film and I'll soon be able to bust out these puppies super quickly, though let's be honest... um, no. It's not completely done, though. I still  need to work out how to animate the leaves. I've done some tests but they aren't quite working out yet. I'm mainly focusing on my Mongol sequence, so hopefully I'll be able to post some new tests from that soon, once they stop looking so crappy :\

Bisnis Card

Here's the design for the back of my business cards :) I got them made for the CTN Animation Expo and now have a bunch to hand out despite giving away a lot of them already! The other side just has my name and a link to my portfolio blogspot (monicakozlowski.blogspot.com), because I haven't done enough research about buying my own domain and/or blogspot is one of few sites that support videos! Need my reel on my site for sure. Anyway, they turned out really cute! :3

Starting to Scan Movie Scenes!

My first scanned frame for my first cleaned scene! Excitiiiiiing! My friend Robbie helped in between some frames and now it's all ready for ToonBoom! I hope to have time tomorrow to color the scene completely before my meeting with my professor.

Background 14

Cut outs for a background for my film :) Made with painted water color paper, gouache on black paper, and black construction paper. I'm going to scan in and animate the leaf parts bc it's supposed to be windy in the scene.

Gate Background

Working on a background for my film! I am terrible at perspective, but in my defense the straight-roof look is on purpose! Slowly but surely...

Mongol Run Cycles

A quick composition of two run cycles for my film. I'm really proud of them but still have so much to do! More characters, backgrounds, and foreground elements before mid-December!

Taking a Walk

Finally decided on a name for my character! Bolek, short for Boleslaw, a Polish name meaning "great glory." Also my father's middle name! Here he is in a walking pose, drawn for the poster advertising our end of the year animation screening on Friday the 20th. Super excited!

Color Ideas

Color Palettes for my eventual color script, and a rough layout with some color splashed on it. Colors are organized by the mood changes within the film.

Character Development

Current design for my main character, whose name as of now is Bolus, but everything is subject to change!

Development and color ideas for two secondary characters, the Old Man and the Goat Herder, along with one of his goats, Billy. Not set in stone yet, either!

Building Development

Development of the look of my film focusing on the buildings in the village and the wall around it. Here are also some trees and bugle designs.

Wycinanki Influenced Characters

Character concepts based off of a method of Polish paper cutting called Wycinanki. Style often includes a symmetric design, bright colors, and a mixture of organic shapes and harsh points. Wycinanki are often influenced by flowers, plants, and birds.
